What are the safety standards of the aircraft used?
The FAA has requirements for the equipment, maintenance and crew of each aircraft, but the open charter market is largely unregulated in terms of safety.
The FAA does not have the resources to inspect every certified charter aircraft.
There are two major safety rating agencies that specialize in private jet charters – Aviation Research Group (ARG/US) and Wyvern.
While there are exceptions, most reliable aircraft operators are registered with one or two companies.
Peak Season Charter Flights
Peak season trips are no different from other rentals, but increased demand can affect pricing and availability.
When booking a peak season trip, contact your provider at least 30 days in advance if possible.
As major holidays approach, airlines are booking quickly, limiting the pool of options available for late-booking customers.
If all planes at or near the departure airport are already booked, you may have to pay more to fly on a plane from outside the area.
Last Minute Charter Flights
Last minute trips may require special considerations, but most flights can be booked with little notice.
Last minute charter flights are a basic offer from every on-demand provider.
The operating time varies by provider, but most flights can be arranged in as little as 2-4 hours.
Aircraft and crew availability is a primary concern on last minute trips. There are a limited number of aircraft and pilots available for a particular trip at any given time.
For example, it can be difficult to book flights from rural airports at midnight on major holidays!
